5PointzCreates x Hopfest

5 Pointz was created and ran by Meres One, a NY native, from 2002 to 2013 in Long Island City Queens. At the time, it was the largest legal aerosol art showcase in the world. It rapidly became the largest gathering spot and showcase for the 5 elements of hip hop, featuring live painting, concerts, battles, cyphers, b-boy competitions, and beatboxing. After it's abrupt destruction in November 2013, Meres One decided to keep the spirit alive with #5pointzcreates.

How does Hopfest relate to 5Pointz?

We are honored to partner with Hopfest, and to bring the spirit of 5POINTZCREATES by bringing the major actors of the 5 Pointz scene to Greensboro, North Carolina. We will host many 5 Pointz representatives, such as Marley Marl and DJ-JS1 to Meres One and Sloke One to Mark Martin and Kaila Mullady, the current beatboxing world champion.

Hopfest is taking place this year at Tracks Bazaar in downtown Greensboro, NC. Tracks Bazaar is one of the first few sites you experience when coming off of I-40 into Greensboro. Similar to 5pointz, Hopfest is helping Tracks rebrand and develop a tired former lumber yard into a vibrant, welcoming event space. Hopfest is bringing legendary aerosol artists, DJs, and musicians from 5pointz and the Queens NY area to Greensboro to help transform the space and bring a new attraction to downtown.

Meres One - Jonathan "Meres One" Cohen was born 1973 in the South Bronx and raised in Queens, New York. Cohen's interest in visual art spans the entirety of his life, but it wasn't until 1987 that Meres One discovered graffiti art and began expressing himself through tags in the streets, graduating to piecing together larger works by 1990 and the birth of his trademark lightbulb, "The Bright Idea."

Using aerosol art as his primary vehicle for expression, Meres One has taken his multi-layered, technically sound, color laden visions from local to global arenas, from street walls to galleries, from head nodding next to the boombox to facilitating and appearing in countless music videos. From Fortune 500 companies like Louis Vuitton, Nikon, Nespresso, Fiat and Facebook, Google, Samsung, Smartcar, and NYCFC to becoming the first graffiti artist hired by a Wine domain from France, to garnering the support and acknowledgement for his selfless efforts at 5 Pointz from the world's most infamous "street vandal" Banksy, Meres One is the pinnacle of visual elevation. A graffiti writer draws his name; Meres One elevates art with a prescient sense of constant innovation and a contagious child-like excitement.
